Observing White House Pets ThroughoutHistory

Pets at the White House have become undeniably more widely known than stewards,
children, or even some House members in the many years our administration has existed,
similar to how large families decorate their dogs or cats spinning out of control through their
homes. Starting with George Washington’s staghounds and expanding from there, White
House critters have provided amusement, astonishment, and a lot for columnists to
separate in their compositions. We’ll take you through a few exhilarating combinations of
two, four, or more legged companions, separating features from every century.
1700’s-1850
George Washington’s hands were full of obligations as he attempted to rule his country,
command a military and set aside time for Martha. While on vacation, a jackass, parrot,
horse, and coonhounds joined his stags to make his life more interesting. Jefferson was
thrilled on time with mockingbird, bear, and canine offspring. Van Buren spent some quality
together with two tiger whelps while John Q enjoyed his crocodile among silkworms. This
century was unquestionably more entertaining than previous ones…or was it?
1851-1900’s
Pets at the White House were kept to a minimum during this time, with Pierce, Buchanan,
and Johnson only having a few exhausting canines and, strangely, a falcon. Lincoln was at
the helm of the current charge, parading goats and even canines while frequently playing
with his hare, horse, and avoiding hunger pangs by watching his turkey go mad. Ulysses
reshapes our characteristics, displaying horses, Faithful his Newfoundland, and a few
ponies. The next hundred years will help to settle the score.
1901-2000
Theo Roosevelt may have possessed the most extensive single pet collection ever, with
terriers, retrievers, and, shockingly, one Pekinese to begin with. His days were rarely weary
with his badger, macaw, hen, a couple guinea pigs (one dubbed Fighting Bob Evans),
supporter snake, and Maude the pig. Calving Coolidge also enjoyed a large number of
canines, wildcats, a dwarf hippopotamus, and raccoons. JFK had a large number of dogs, a
bunny named Zsa, and possibly even hamsters.
GW and Obama
Less the exotic fish floating around the oval office, one Portuguese water canine named Bo
suffices for our flow first family, but GW required more mixed breeds of terriers, spaniels,
and ox-like. While Clinton made sprinkles with Buddy beside Chelsea’s kitten Socks, our
most recent White House creature has followed off until now. Obviously, the following
